UPDATES 4-6-06 I have 90% of the machinima footage compiled (both machinima and fodder for dream-backdrops, rotoscoped), 90% of the blue-screen footage filmed and compiled. Saturday or Sunday, Monagle and I are getting together here for nail down the two awakening/logging in scenes. All that's left after that is the grotto scene (working to synchronize 4 parties' schedules), and then the brunt of the post-production. Taking that into account, as well as another day or two of supplementary re-shooting and new shots, I'm gonna have a busy-as-shit last couple weeks, but it'll be done, and most likely done nearly how I want it. The rotoscoping has been a bitch and a half to cut through, and i'm still not fully over a slew of logistical issues that've made themselves apparent:
There are a few more issues i'm dealing with (including my quickly depleting harddrive space on my mammoth 250gb external). I have a sample dream scene fully rotoscoped and up on the media page (those major bugs are evident, but fixable through tweaking and conversion, hopefully).... 3-26-06 Day one of filming, and it's already becoming apparent how much of a logistical nightmare this undertaking is going to be. Hoping to tackle some of the more easily approachable portions of filming, I went to Turner's yesterday to nail down the machinima filming inside World of Warcraft. So many unforseen roadblocks...got absolutely no filming done in 5 hours. Tichondrius server had a 500-player line, the laptop I brought could barely handle the highly populated areas, and I had to rewrite portions of the screenplay to fit what I COULD do, as opposed to what I WANTED to do. Turner says "that's film-making," and don't I ever know it...If this is any indication as to how difficult this project is going to be, i'm gonna step in front a bus...on the upside, I now know exactly what I need to do tommorrow when machinima filming recommences.... 3-24-06 Talked to Dr. Haines today, he pointed me in the direction of Foucault, whose work i've been trying to pick apart for applications to this film...he gave me a book he teaches in his queer theory class, addressing the malleability of personality, as well as a bunch of great stuff on gender identity. Delwiche pointed me toward the 'brain-in-a-vat' theory, which is a redux revamp of Descartes' notion of the 'mad scientist' or 'evil demon' theory. Goddamn skeptics, why can't a cheeseburger be a cheeseburger. 3-20-06 Back from Nawleans, and ready to hit the ground running, so to speak. Spoke to FR Weber at the grotto a little while ago, and got the go ahead to film there. Trying to get my three talents together for one grand day of filming the most difficult part of the film. Yaya. Cheers. 3-5-06 So I've set up this site in order to keep interested parties (i.e. my crew, confidants, and overseers) up to date on the progress of the film. Spring break is coming up fairly quickly, which is just exciting the hell out of me. At this point, the first draft of the screenplay/screen-direction-manifesto has formed into a semblence of a good story. The crew is assembled...we have the technology...we can do it...but I fear that i've bitten off more than I can chew in two months. Filming (in-game, and out) and editing are going to take a huge part of my time here. The post-production is going to be the hardest of all. The film depends hugely on visual effects that I've becoming confidant that I can implement successfuly, albeit very tediously. The rotoscoping, chroma-keying, steadycaming, and everything in between should be interesting. When SB2k6 comes to a close, I'm hitting the ground running both with this as well as the game we're putting together. Hells yes.
